VW Golf Mk4 Broken Suspension Coil Springs - Replacement Shock Absorbers & Coil Springs

On my VW Golf the driver's side was making a terrible grinding/pinging noise when the steering wheel was turned. Video of broken coil spring on VW Golf MK4

From the noise we determined that one of the coil springs for the suspension had broken so had to replace.

You can see the old spring on the left and the new one on the right. The top section of the old coil spring has broken off meaning that the top doesn't sit properly in the mount so when you turn the wheel it pings back out again.

Below - the broken spring is on the left and complete one on the right - again you can see the top section that has broken off. It is always advisable to replace springs and shock absorbers in pairs so that handling isn't compromised.

While we were replacing the broken springs on the VW Golf we decided to renew the shock absorbers too and what a great decision that was! The old shock absorbers were the originals and were totally ineffective with no resistance at all.
